Several months ago a group of prominent people formed the National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee. Their objective was and still is to determine if there is a ground swell amongst concerned Americans to tell Dr. Carson he is vitally needed. The National Chairman of this Committee is John Philip Sousa, IV, the great grandson of a great leader of the Marine Corps Band. The campaign chairman is Vernon Robinson, son of V.L. Robinson, a Tuskegee airman and himself a graduate of the Air Force Academy.
Many of us around America have joined Ben’s Brigades to work with the national committee to generate an unstoppable movement to draft Dr. Ben Carson for president. As I write this letter there are over 200,000 Americans who have signed on. Funds in the millions have been contributed to this committee. Vernon Robinson now has staff located in Iowa and New Hampshire to obtain on-site grassroots opinions and support. As the ground swell grows for Dr. Carson, Mr. Robinson will expand his on-site activities to other states.
Many of you know some things about Dr. Carson’s background, but the doctor’s lifetime of achievements are not well known. Let me briefly discuss some highlights. He grew up in poverty in Detroit, Mich., raised by a single mom who refused govemment welfare other than excess food. After some troubling earlier years, at age 8 he decided he wanted to be a medical doctor. He persevered and practiced medicine around the world and for 39 years at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. He retired in 2013 and now is the emeritus professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics. One career highlight is worthy of direct notice: In 1987, he preformed the first and only successful separation of (Siamese) twins joined at the back of the head. He has many awards, over 60 honorary doctorate degrees and in 2008 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Dr. Carson’s career is not limited to medicine. He has written several books. I have just completed reading “America the Beautiful.” This is a wonderful book written from the heart. He loves our country. His current book, just released, is titled “One Nation.” Also, he is on demand to speak to many diverse audiences. Many of us remember his speech at last year’s National Prayer Breakfast when he spoke directly about the nation’s problems while President Obama was sitting a few feet away. Dr. Carson does not use notes or a teleprompter when he speaks. He speaks from his heart and soul. This procedure has caused some concern for the Secret Service and others wanting to know in advance what he will say. But, he prevails.
You will note there is no mention of Dr. Carson’s political career. He has none. I believe our nation needs a citizent come forth and lead us. Dr. Ben Carson is a registered Independent as he states he votes for the most qualified person. The “Run Ben Run” committee leaders have told us that if Dr. Carson decides to throw his hat into the ring he will not run as a third-party candidate, but will campaign in Republican primaries and caucuses and compete against the other candidates.
Dr. Carson is not a politician, nor is he an average citizen. He has been immanently successful
in his chosen profession — neurosurgery — and as a speaker and author. Even more importantly,
he is a person who has seen and lived all aspects of American life; he deeply loves America and
believes Father God guided our Founding Fathers in creating our special country. Ben Carson is,
in my opinion, a person who can: a) Unite our peoples into one country; b) start our country’s
journey back to a Constitutional Republic; and c) reduce the federal bureaucracy and make it
responsive to our — We the People’s — needs. Those who are interested in learning more about
Dr. Ben Carson please go to runbenrun.org.
Let me conclude with a quote from Ben Carson’s book, “America the Beautiful”:
“It is my prayer, America, that God will continue to shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good
with brotherhood from sea to shining sea. I pray that with his blessings our past will be but a
stepping stone to a bright future and that our best days will truly lie ahead of us — a beautiful new beginning!”
