DB, the real thing. I have the picture and the ticket. $298.10 including court costs. Justice of the Peace Sonora Tx. It is a long ways across Texas with straight roads that stretch for as far as you can see. There are some caverns in Sonora Texas that are considered to be the most pristine in the world. After the state patrol wrote me up he passed me a couple of miles down the road and I was doing the posted limit of 80mph and he went by me like I was on blocks. I estimate he was going upwards of 140. I think he probably goes bass fishing on the weekends with the Justice of the peace.

Phil, I got one in Texas for 96 in an 80. Good thing he didn’t catch me a few miles earlier. I was taking a picture of the speedometer at 102.

CHP does not actively patrol West of Rockcrusher, and East of Ice House. Too far from donuts and coffee. Calstar has a very affordable yearly insurance program that covers evacuations. It is only $50.00 for your whole family! I am a frequent visitor to the backcountry, and my wife commutes to Marshall Hospital from South Lake 3 days a week. This program is a given for us.

Before jumping too hard on the CHP, many of you may not know that if you get in an accident, even if it is your fault, you may request the CHP medivac helicopter to transport you to a local trauma center and they will do it for free, if available, and they usually are, instead of you having to pay Calstar or Reach helos $10,000 to $15k for the same ride. Many folks are unaware of this since CHP is not allowed to advertise this service.

You can see Escalades and Tahoes and Expeditions pulling ski boats up to Tahoe in the fast lane (illegal on a 3-laner) doing 75 ALL summer long. It happens all the time. I think most of them don’t even know it’s illegal, or they don’t read the sign past “Trucks 55″ down to where it says “Autos with trailers”. The CHP (a revenue generating arm of the Sate of CA) prefers writing the most lucrative tickets, so if it’s a choice between a $150 speeding ticket (65 in a 55) or a $300 ticket (80+ in a 65) , guess who gets it?

You're right of course, SH. I think I still smarting from having received a written warning in Texas (I know, not CA) for excessive speed. A download of my Garmin GPS log for my speed at the time of the stop showed 70 1/2 mph in a 70 zone. Big rigs were passing me.
