EDITOR:
I know that State Parks are in the spotlight these days, but I think that it’s time to step back and put things into perspective. Parks is 0.001 percent of the state’s budget. Using Parks to balance the budget is like a family trying to make a mortgage payment with the change in their pocket. Unlike any state agency, our Legislature has no work product. They are only constitutionally required to prepare a budget in June of each year, at a cost of $2 million per Legislator, per year.
California’s Legislature has not only abandoned the public trust in the form of our State Parks, and Educational systems, but in its zeal to privatize everything, has declared war on its own citizens, bordering on cultural and educational genocide.
California is on its way to becoming a third world country and our own Legislature is directing the way. The people of California have become the “cash crop,” which politicians are using to their own benefit. It is time to replace these self-serving politicians with publicly minded individuals that are interested in keeping the culture and spirit alive and healthy. After all, Facebook did not locate in California because of the weather, it located here because of us, the citizens of the State of California.
