Now Cookie, this new Cal Fire tax is a fee for awareness of fires in California and not necessarily used for Cal Fire. You are giving Moon Beam a good idea to charge a earth quake awareness fee. To us rural uneducated to earthquake folks. Cal Fire still provides services to good democrat socialist fearing folks in the valleys. They just don't need no edumacation.

jpuffert, how come the very blue, very dependable overwhelmingly democrat voting areas of the bay area and southern California are not levied an earthquake fee? Is it because earthquakes in highly populated areas don't cause much damage? They don't require first responders, fire, police, ambulance, search and rescue, equipment. Or maybe they are far less costly than loosing a couple of structures and out buildings in a wildlands fire. Anyone who cannot see the political nature of the fire tax should not be allowed to vote. But that would put the dems out of business.

You have done great job of listing the problems. How about some of the complainers providing some answers as well. If you know how to run the state, then throw your name in the hat and stop complaining; provide a solution.
The fire tax is a pain, a quick and questionable grab at $150 times 825,000 residences billed = $120M. But the sources of fires as you mentioned will still be there and the cost of fighting them keeps getting higher.
How would you propose Cal Fire fund fighting more fires each year ? Or should they just stop?
PGE is not a tax, but a utility bill for electricity provided from a for profit company. Buy shares and get dividends.
EID is not a tax, but a utility bill for water / wastewater services provided by a company mandated by government to be non-profit. REview the last 12 years of certified comprehensive annual audits on their website.
Anyone have any viable answers, not just complaints ? Send your solutions to Mr. Moonbeam.
