EDITOR: Chris Daley, thank you for the complete report on the Senior Day Care discussion and vote at the Board of Supervisors meeting last week. A great group of supporters and advocates came to speak and many of those nodded listening in agreement I would have liked to speak but had laryngitis. When, I reported to the board in January the need to open the EDH site was a concern
With the county’s explosive senior population, this facility will provide a humanitarian evidenced base of care for elders who need it when they need it. Although, it is rare an elder says I want to go to Senior Day Care, there is a time when it will fulfill a desperate need for a caregiver and loved one. Unlike other entitlement government programs, there is a buy-in by the clients who pay a daily fee of about $50.
Thank you to the supervisors for moving this forward and funding this facility in EDH. The sign has read Senior Day Care for four or five years and the space unused. The benefits of such a service for the residents, families and employers will ripple into the community. We all need to continue to make the communities in El Dorado County more “aging friendly.”
