EDITOR: On Saturday, April 13, I was spoiled by the Pollock Pines Interact kids (a youth service club mentored by the Rotary). Once a month they hold a breakfast at the Pollock Pines-Camino Community Center. These Sierra Ridge Middle School students are learning to organize and operate a business. Today is my birthday, and I went to have their pancake breakfast. As I entered the door — they had decorated for me — I had my own “birthday” table. They played music (beautiful flutes). As a group they surrounded me and sang “Happy Birthday” (again I was so touched that I cried).
I want to thank them again for a wonderful birthday breakfast — one I will always hold near my heart. These young kids run the whole show — the money, raffle tickets, cooking, cleaning — and today adapted to giving a wonderful birthday production. Nice job. (The breakfast was not their only event of the day; these young people were going to be helping way into the night for another event in town.) Their last breakfast for this year will be on May 11 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Pollock Pines-Camino Community Center. It’s a celebration to all mothers for Mother’s Day — and I understand there will be some surprises. I hope to see you there. These young people are wonderful.
