Do no harm to economy

EDITOR: I see Mr. Garon is ranting again on global warming, so let’s take a rational look at this from all perspectives and possible countermeasures. I think a good way to do this is to list viewpoints on the subject and actions to be taken if they’re right. It’s also helpful to note that several decades ago the scientific community that Mr. Garon often references was predicting an ice age. But on to the points.

1. It’s a natural cycle which has happened before as in the time of the Incas and beyond man’s power to stop. Action: Prepare for it rather than kill the economy in a fruitless attempt to stop it.

2. It is man caused. With China bringing on new coal fired power plants almost every week and both China and the developing countries not intending to damage their economies and risk the resultant social unrest that part of the world will continue, speeches aside, to pump greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere unabated. This will make our efforts to curb greenhouse gasses totally ineffective and trash our economy for nothing. Action: Again utilize our scarce resources to prepare for it instead of killing the economy in a hopeless attempt to stop it.

3. Some things have not melted as fast as predicted, so progression of warming may not go as forecast. Sometimes scientists have to revise their theories. Remember when the nuclear scientists were warning of the China Syndrome where an out-of-control core cold melt through the bottom of the containment building and theorically melt right down to the center of the Earth with nothing to stop it. Then we had Three Mile Island and we found out that that theory was bogus because the melting would cause the nuclear rods to get ouf of allignment and retard the reaction so that the downward melting was halted.

So as you can see, no matter who is right it makes no sense to trash our economy putting masses of people out of work in a fruitless attempt to halt that over which we are powerless, while at the same time China and others will be building their economies unabated, taking our jobs and our money.
