EDITOR: After some 30 years on an agricultural water rate, this year we were taken off. There were several water leaks in my yard; this coupled with the new rate produced a water bill about 2.5 times higher than usual.

So this year no garden, 3/4 of our lawn gets no water. We have dug up most of the roses; it’s better than watching them die. We have a few fruit trees that will get some water. Our only mistake was not drilling a well years ago before we retired. Now we can’t afford it.
