Who is the latest acting HHS chief?

EDITOR: How did a lowly staffer in the CAO’s office all of a sudden become the acting director of Health and Human Services overnight? No press announcement?

Who is Don Ashton? According to his online resume, he is a ghost before showing up to El Dorado County to work in the Sheriff’s Office as a fiscal analyst a couple of years ago. Is he another one of the CAO’s inexperienced pawns? How does a degree in Environmental Health qualify him to oversee the county Health and Human Services Department?

ECC is lucky to have Mr. Ashton on board. He is a highly experienced professional who has begun to turn around the department. We are also lucky to have our current CAO. I am continually amazed at the comments I see here by individuals who have no idea what they are talking about.

I have to agree with the writer, something doesn’t add up here. EDC had an experienced HHS Director named Daniel Neilson with many decades of experience who upped and quit not long ago. Ray Nutting recently tried to get the Board to open up to the issues discussed in closed session as to why Nielson quit and our non-transparent BOS wouldn’t release the info. So now there is a guy named Don Ashton who has been elevated to a very high position very quickly after being hired as an analyst in the Sheriff’s Dept only a couple years ago who doesn’t appear to have the career path, credentials or longevity of experience in holding a similar position in HHS has been all of a sudden given the lofty position under an “acting” title by the CAO after she made him a Fiscal Manager of Mental Health only a few months ago. Mr. Ashton’s online resume doesn’t go back past 2011. Where is the CAO’s press release touting Mr. Ashton’s experience? The CAO has recently being hiring many inexperienced and incompetent people and placing them in high positions creating a lot of turmoil in the County government.
