A MODIFIED VOLKSWAGEN spotted in the Mountain Democrat parking lot on Thursday, May 2 is the creation of Placerville resident Mitchell Werstler. Werstler says he found the 1965 Volkswagen body in the desert near Kingman, Ariz. and decided to make a project car out of it. The Bug was assembled over a period of five years using a Cummins Diesel 12-valve engine, a 1986 Toyota 4-Runner frame and Chevy 1-ton axels. Democrat photos by Pat Dollins
