El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputies, CHP and a CHP helicopter responded to a report of a car jacking on Durock Road Monday morning.
The report came from victim Tania Nichols of Cameron Park, who called 911 from the Clean Wash Shingle Springs car wash, a press release from the Sheriff’s Department stated. Nichols and her two daughters, ages 8 and 10, had stopped at the car wash to use the change machine when a white male attempted to steal Nichols’ car.
While her two daughters hid behind the coin machine, Nichols ran to her car to intercept the suspect, the press release stated. In the resulting fight, Nichols pulled the suspect from the car and he fled on foot toward Strolling Hills Road.
Deputies and CHP began searching the area. According to the press release, a person matching the suspect’s description was spotted by a CHP helicopter running on Lariat Loop. A K9 unit was able to make contact, but the suspect fled into some brush. The K9 was deployed after a short chase, and when the suspect was bit by the K9, the suspect began assaulting dog. The K9′s handler was able to intervene and attempted to handcuff the suspect, who continued to resist arrest and fought both the deputy and K9. After the scuffle, the deputy was able to handcuff the suspect, identified as Daniel Craig Wright, 42, of Placerville.
Wright was taken to Marshall Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the press release stated. He was later booked into the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of attempted carjacking, assaulting a police K9 and resisting arrest. Two enhancements were added for prior felony convictions and being on misdemeanor probation. He is being held on $780,000 bail.
