Kao Veng, 23, of Sacramento, was putting an unknown caliber handgun in a box at about 4:35 a.m., El Dorado County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Felton said. The gun discharged, hitting Veng in the left hand and Cheng Veng, 25, of Sacramento, in the left knee.
Kao Veng initially made up a story about a drive-by shooting in an attempt to cover up the accident, but EDSO concluded it was simply an accident.
The men were taken to Mercy San Juan Hospital for treatment.
