A work-related accident at David Girard Winery has led to the death of Josh Ruff, 22.
Ruff, a 2007 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, began working for the winery in 2011.
“Another employee heard a crash, responded, and saw his right leg pinned underneath a hopper,” said El Dorado County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Becker. CPR was conducted on-scene and he was later flown by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Becker said.
A spokesman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Ruff had died at the medical center. He also confirmed that an accident at work had been the cause, and that an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
