Armed intruder shot dead

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a gunshot in the 3100 block of Hi Lo Way in Placerville just before midnight on Friday.

Dispatch received a report that a man, allegedly armed with a handgun, had entered a residence and had attempted to leave after being shot with a shotgun. He was reportedly lying on the ground just outside the door of the residence.

Upon arrival, deputies found the body of a 37-year-old male, later identified as Richard Lee Hart of Sacramento, lying face down in the reported spot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation by homicide detectives and coroner detectives. No arrests have been made.

    I commend our Sheriff and DA for not making any rush decisions to automatically jail the shooter. Past administrators would jail first and ask questions later. Both our Sheriff and DA are staunch supporters of our 2nd Amendment, and our right to protect. As it appears on the surface, the shooter may deserve an atta-boy.
