A trio of would-be thieves attempted to steal an ATM in the early morning hours of Thursday in El Dorado Hills.
The alarm was tripped at CVS drugstore on Post Street at 2:18 a.m. when at least three suspects backed a stolen truck through the front doors, said El Dorado County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Becker. They tied a cable or rope around the ATM and twice attempted to drive away with it. Both times failed.
When deputies arrived at 2:21 a.m., the suspects were gone.
“The subjects responsible for the damage had already left,” wrote Becker in a press release. “Through video surveillance, deputies determined that at least three subjects had arrived at the CVS store in two pickup trucks.”
The stolen truck, a white Ford F-350 that was used to destroy the doors, was found a block away, still running. It was found to be a new, unregistered truck. It was later determined to have been stolen from a new car dealership in Folsom. The red pickup truck also seen on surveillance was not found, the press release stated.
There is no further suspect information at this time.
