Burke’s Corner is  a once-a-week photo corner of answers to questions of  seriousness, controversy or lightness in El Dorado County. Look for me in the community each week to ask you the question of the week and get your answer! For future question suggestions, comments or contact,  Burke can be reached at burkescorner@outlook.com.

Question: What are you doing after graduation?

The following interviews are a selection of some of the highest overall achieving students graduating from Union Mine High school who responded to my requests.

I will be attending UC Davis in the Fall of 2014, majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I plan to continue on and attend medical school. I hope to serve society through medicine; to research and find cures for diseases such as Crohn’s and Alzheimer’s diseases that have affected me personally with their debilitating effects on some of my loved ones.

My ambition has always been to enter the medical field, after I learned that I love biology and science is my strongest subject. I want to go to medical school and become an anesthesiologist. I will be attending Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo after graduating and I will be majoring in Biology in the Honors Program.

Next year I will be attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. My favorite subject is Transfiguration, and I want to someday become an Auror and a member of the Order of the Phoenix. I’m actually going to UC Davis and majoring in Bio-medical Engineering, and I plan on pursuing a master’s degree in that field too.

I will be going to UC Berkeley in the fall as a Genetics and Plant Biology major. With this major, I plan on becoming a restoration ecologist and helping ecosystems recover from natural disasters, pollution, erosion, etc. I also hope to join the Peace Corps once I graduate from college.

I will be attending Folsom Lake College in the fall and then UC Berkeley for the spring of 2015. I will be a part of the College of Letters and Science at Cal-Berkeley working towards a bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics. In my future I plan to attain a master’s degree in my intended major. But for my near future I will be traveling to Europe for a brief period of time (28 days) and experiencing other countries cultures while learning about their history. I am a first-generation college student.
