I too am thoroughly disgusted with budget battles. I must stay within what funds are in my accounts and so should government. My property is less than a mile from a new fire station which my taxes paid for, and another station about a mile and a half away. Sales taxes were increased for fire coverage in the area. Now I'm being taxed (Fee'd) again for very similar coverage. I was sent notification that I would be getting a bill for my property last summer. I waited but DID NOT receive a bill. Last week my son received a letter from the State Board of Equalization showing a late fee penalty and Interest due of .5% rate each month it is not paid. AND they would place a lien against the property. I called the board the same day my son notified me and spoke to one of the employees. I notified him I was living out of state and the county tax records show the correct mailing address. He was to send out the proper paperwork with an appeal for the penalty. I still have not received the letter. The penalty fee grows.

One big fire would wiped out that entire budget. Cal Fire's budget has been continually slashed for decades. People wake up and smell the coffee!
You can't have it both ways! Everybody wants services nobody wants to pay!
This is very reasonable insurance!
