A quick hearing Monday morning on behalf of Cal’s Market owner Vincent Cal resulted in a new trial date.
Deputy district attorney Michael Pizzuti and Cal’s attorney Steve Tapson agreed to change the trial’s start date to July 31 at 8:30 a.m. with a readiness and settlement hearing on July 27 at 8:30 a.m. Tapson would not otherwise be available for the previous trial date.
Cal is accused of illegally operating a market on land that is not commercially zoned. While markets have been operated on the land before, the District Attorney’s Office contends that over a year had passed where the property was not commercially used before Cal opened his store, and thus it would have automatically been rezoned to be a residential area.
