Mary Cahill, general manager of the Cameron Park Community Services District, had her employment contract with the district renewed for another two years. The new contract expires at the end of September 2014.
Cahill’s salary will be $90,000 a year, which is unchanged from what she is currently earning. In addition she will receive 10 days of vacation and up to 12 days of sick leave a year, 10 days per year of administrative leave, 16 days per year of holiday leave, and time off for bereavement leave and jury duty as needed.
The district will pay 4 percent of her contribution to PERS or $3,600 per year and pay for all the premiums on her health, dental, and vision insurance. In addition she will receive a $350 monthly stipend to cover travel within 30 miles of the district offices as well as cover her cell phone expenses. The district will also pay for her to attend professional development programs and to participate in local community groups.
Cahill is an at-will employee, which means her contract can be terminated with notice. If her contract is terminated without cause, the district must pay her an amount equal to one year’s salary plus accrued leave or the remainder of her contract period compensation plus accrued leave, whichever is less. If terminated with cause, Cahill would have the right to a hearing with legal expenses for her defense paid for by the district.
The new contract goes into effect Oct. 1.

At the September 19th board meeting the General Manager presented a budget with a fifty one thousand dollars deficit. She then asked for an increase of twenty thousand dollars for contract services and an additional ten thousand dollars for legal fees. She received yes votes to increase the deficit by an additional thirty thousand dollars from McNeil, Stanton, Tucker and Clarke. We can’t blame the General Manager we have to place the blame for the mess Cameron Park is in squarely on the shoulders of these four board members. Remember it was these four who voted to extend the General Managers contract for another two years. All of the General Managers failures, Grillin and Chillin, the Spring crafts fair, the failure to market the community center, belong to these four board members. The public needs to ask them why they would vote for a budget that was fifty one thousand dollars in the red and then add thirty thousand more dollars to the existing deficit. The one board member that really needs to speak up is Sean Tucker. He is running for his own term on the board and he should publicly address his constant yes vote for everyone of our General Managers imbecilic and costly mistakes.
