Autotronics Automotive Repair is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the Brakes for Breasts campaign fundraiser where during the month of October the independently-owned auto repair shop is joining 50 other independent shops representing 19 states across the U.S. by offering their customers free brake pads and donating 10 percent of every brake service directly to The Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund.
The Brakes For Breasts fundraiser is different from many breast cancer fundraising campaigns which run during October because funds raised by these independently-owned auto repair shops goes directly to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund in order to fund research of a vaccine which will lead to a cure for breast cancer, not just treatments for the disease.
Another way that this fundraising mission is different from many other breast cancer fundraising efforts is that 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to the Cleveland Clinic and zero percent of these donated profits are lost to any type of marketing and administrative fees. Program founder, Leigh Anne Best, felt it important to create a program where the participating shops could raise money for an organization working on a breast cancer vaccine cure while each shop can see the direct impact of all the funds they raise.
This marks the third year for the Breaks For Breasts fundraiser. It was launched in 2011 by two women, Best of Mighty Auto Pro in Medina, Ohio and Laura Frank of Royal Car Care & Tire Center in Brunswick, Ohio. Of the past two years fundraising successes and this year’s enrollment jump, Best said, “The third time is a charm. Our first year (2010), we raised $10,000 with five shops. In 2012, we asked our fellow independently-owned auto repair shop owners across the country to join our mission and we tripled participation while raising $33,000. This year, we are 50 shops strong and have set a goal of $50,000 with 100 percent of their proceeds going to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund.”
