The CHP recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested one suspect at approximately 11 a.m. on March 5.

At 8:30 a.m., the CHP received a report that a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner and a 2005 Toyota Sequoia had been stolen, a press release stated. A call reported the 4 Runner near Combo Court and Pleasant Valley Road.

Both patrol and aviation units responded. While investigating, a CHP airplane observed a Sequoia drive by the location, heading east on Pleasant Valley Road. When a patrol unit followed the vehicle to confirm it was the stolen vehicle, a pursuit ensued.

The Sequoia was followed to Outingdale Road in Somerset, where the driver stopped the vehicle and ran on foot. Additional CHP units and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputies provided assistance in the pursuit. The suspect was eventually taken into custody as he attempted to flee the scene in another vehicle.

The suspect was identified as Justin Laustup, 29, of Somerset. He is charged on suspicion of the thefts of both vehicles and has allegedly been connected to several burglaries and thefts in El Dorado and surrounding counties.

On March 7, Laustup was arraigned in Department 7. An amended complaint added a charge of violation of probation and given no bail.
