Members of the National Christmas Tree Association (NCTA) will tour El Dorado County Christmas Tree farms on Saturday, Aug. 11, as part of a convention they are holding this week in Sacramento.
The tour will include a visit to Carson Ridge Evergreens, McGee’s Tree Farm, Madrona Winery, and Indian Rock Tree Farm. Accompanying them will be Dee Kobervig, who is President of the El Dorado County Christmas Tree Growers. She said there were probably between 45 to 50 different people growing Christmas Trees in the county. In 2010, the value of these harvested Christmas Trees and cut greens was $2.2 million.
The NCTA helps promote the Christmas Tree industry. The organization says there are close to 14,000 Christmas Tree farms in the U.S. alone and the industry generates over $1 billion in sales. California ranks fifteenth in production with almost 120,000 tree harvested yearly.
During the convention, a contest will be held with the winning farm having the honor of providing the Official White House Christmas Tree in 2012. Winning members of the NCTA have provided the White House Christmas Tree since 1966.
