Since Mayor Acuna has indicated that he is not running for re-election, the City of Placerville does not have an incumbent seeking a seat, thereby creating a five day extension for those interested in running for City Council. Any candidate wishing to run for City Council in the November 6th election, may pick up their Nomination Form and related documents in order to obtain their 20 valid signatures on their Nomination Form prior to the deadline.
Registered voters of the City of Placerville, who have resided within the city limits for one year preceding the election, and are interested in running for City Council or City Treasurer, may contact the City Clerk at 642-5531 to make an appointment to obtain required candidacy forms.
Two, full four-year City Council terms and one full four-year Treasurer term will be voted upon at the November 6, 2012 general election. Although there is no filing fee to run for City Council, candidates submitting a candidate’s statement, for the ballot must pay $290 (Optional candidate’s statement printed in Spanish is an additional $386).
The City Council holds its regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, plus several public workshops each year. Councilmember’s receive monetary compensation of $317 per month and the City Treasurer’s compensation is $182 per month.
