Robert Hefley, 71, was driving his black Lexus GS300 southbound on Highway 49 near Catecroft Road, just south of Northside Elementary School, at about 6:30 a.m. when he crested a rise, said CHP Officer Quinn Cuthbertson. While he tried to swerve left when he saw an oncoming car, he was met head-on by a 2009 blue Honda Civic. The oncoming car was being driven northbound in the southbound lane by Minor Miller, of Cool, described by Cuthbertson as being in his early 40s.
“Both parties were injured, but the gentleman in the (Lexus) is fine today. Bumps, bruises and scrapes. Lot of bruises,” Cuthbertson said. Miller sustained serious injuries. “It was almost a fatal (accident),” Cuthbertson said.
