Comcast rolls out Olympic coverage

Comcast has developed services to complement the Olympic programming that NBC is providing across multiple TV networks.

Online, Comcast has launched a new Website, Xfinity.com/NBCOlympics, a one-stop destination that gives users easy access to live streaming events, schedules and the latest news and highlights. From the site, customers can also record Olympic events on their DVR, instantly search for athletes and sports or change the TV channel, or tune to recaps and what’s to come on Xfinity On Demand.

Comcast customers will also be able to see the Olympics in the following ways:

1. Xfinity On Demand: On VOD, we will have more than 200 hours of Olympics coverage our customers can enjoy before, during and after the Games. Pre-Games content consists of memorable Olympic moments, an introduction to London, and profiles of athletes competing in these Games, as well as highlights of the most popular Trials. As the Games unfold, customers will be able to see every medal-winning performance through full-event replays, highlights and the Top 5 Xfinity Moments. They can also catch a daily recap hosted by Bob Costas to guide them to must-see events from the previous day. As the Games come to a close, customers will be able to relive their favorite Olympic moments for two weeks after the Closing Ceremonies.

2. Live on TV: Watch live TV coverage across nine networks, including three specialty networks — soccer, basketball and 3D coverage on the Xfinity 3D channel.

3. Live streaming: View 3,500 hours of free live streaming, including all events from all 32 sports and 302 medals on NBCOlympics.com and NBC’s Live Extra app via the Olympics microsite Xfinity.com/NBCOlympics. (Note that customers with the basic tier of service will have access to some live streaming content, but only those who subscribe to the Digital Starter tier of service or above will be able to view all of the live streamed content.)

One way Comcast has coordinated live streaming with NBC is that it has deployed automatic in-home verification for customers, which means when the vast majority of Xfinity video subscribers are at home using their Xfinity High-Speed Internet service, they can be seamlessly logged in to view the Olympics online or on a mobile device without having to enter a username or password. If a customer is outside of their home, they should go to xfinity.com/NBCOlympics and sign in using their Comcast ID (their comcast.net e-mail address or user name).

4. Spanish programming: Comcast has also created an Olympics section at Xfinity.com/latinotv, which will offer special Spanish-language Olympic guides, as well as profiles on Hispanic and multicultural athletes on the U.S. Olympic team and highlights/information on teams from other countries (e.g. Argentina, Spain, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, etc.).
