A man was arrested after an alleged hit-and-run on March 22 after the victim chased the suspect to a gas station in Cameron Park.

Michael Scott Smullins, 44, allegedly hit a red 1991 Toyota MR2 at Cambridge Road and Green Valley Road in Cameron Park with his black 1996 Nissan Maxima, CHP Officer Quinn Cuthbertson confirmed.

“He hit my brother’s parked car at a light, blaring his horn, then took off,” said the victim’s brother, who wished to remain unnamed out of fear of retaliation.

The victim, who was relatively uninjured, followed Smullins. As they were driving down a residential street, the victim “followed close to get the license number and model of the car” when Smullins’ reverse lights came on, said the victim, who also wished to remain unnamed. Smullins “told me his brakes locked up but suddenly didnt know what happened when the cops came.”

The victim followed the suspect through a CVS parking lot before the chase ended at the 76 Gas Station at Cameron Park Road and Green Valley Road. It was here that law enforcement caught up to the suspect, while Smullins antagonized the victim — which the victim said he recorded.

Smullins was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on a single charge of driving under the influence, later posting his $2,500 bail. The victim said that he had a sore neck, but was otherwise uninjured.
