A 1997 Pontiac was heading eastbound at Highway 50 and the Bass Lake Road under crossing at 2:05 a.m. when it left the roadway, off the west dirt embankment, said CHP Officer Frank Rodriquez. The car launched into the air and traveled about 65 feet.
The car slammed into the north shoulder edge of Bass Lake Road and burst into flames. The driver, who had been wearing a seatbelt, died as a result of the fire. The driver has not been identified yet due to injuries.
