EDH man finds bear in back yard

Michael Saint John has seen deer, rattlesnakes and other wildlife in his neighborhood off Malcolm Dixon Road but he never expected the visitor he had Monday — a full-grown bear.

“It was taller than me and I’m 6 foot, 4 inches,” Saint John said, estimating the bear weighed between 400 and 500 pounds. “It looked like Bigfoot.”

He and the bear came eye to eye in Saint John’s Arroyo Vista Way back yard at about 1:45 p.m. Saint John had been watering and said he turned around — both he and the bear startled. Saint John ran into his home and called 911.

“I’ve lived here since 1989 and I’ve never heard of a bear here before,” he said.

Saint John said other neighbors also reported seeing the bear, which as of now has eluded officials called out to search for it.

This is the second bear sighting in El Dorado Hills in a decade.

    Wow! You people act like city people when it comes to a bear. Calling 911 or F&G. Just make noise and it will go away. If it’s not breaking into your house or endangering someone, let it be and enjoy watching it..

    Exactly. Everyone thinks they live in the country in EDC and “enjoys” their rural lifestyle until they actually encounter a country living experience. Lots of bears around this year all over the county.
