Fortune Garden Chinese Restaurant in El Dorado Hills reopened April 13 over a year after a fire forced its closure.

The restaurant was opened in 2005 by owner Wi Xiao Chen, his daughter Landy Chen-Wu and her husband Sam Wu, but an electrical short in a freezer unit on Feb. 12, 2012 caused a fire, closing the restaurant, a press release stated. The family and employees dealt with insurance companies, building permits and ADA retrofitting for 13 months before being able to reopen.

“Fortunately, we had a good general contractor that really went out of their way to help us,” said Landy Chen-Wu. “It wasn’t easy, but there are good people out there that really do want to help. I wouldn’t have been able to cope with all of the issues if it wasn’t for the good people at El Dorado Restoration.”

“I’m so happy,” Landy Chen-Wu said after a table-filling grand opening. “It’s so great to be here and see everyone again. I’ve learned that if you open your heart and be genuine with people, they will keep coming back. I love our guests.”

Fortune Garden is located at 899 Embarcadero Drive, El Dorado Hills, on the corner of Green Valley Road. The restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
