On the busiest month nearly 42 million pieces of sorted mail flow through the facility in the El Dorado Hills Business Park, according to Mury Salls, senior vice president of DST Mailing Services. The company’s sophisticated, nearly hands-off system pushes envelope after envelope through with the goal of getting it to its destination as quickly as possible.
“We don’t want the mail to rest until it’s in the mailbox,” said Frank Delfer, president of DST Mailing Services, at a DST open house Tuesday afternoon.
And the company doesn’t want its equipment to have any time off either. The 24/7 operation just got bigger with DST Mailing Services offering presort services to local businesses — a service company officials say will deliver clients’ first-class mail faster and cheaper.
“The presort capabilities offered by DST Mailing Services enable mailers to qualify for higher postal discounts by combining mail from multiple clients and sorting it by ZIP Code,” states a press release issued by DST Mailing Services. “This mail realizes faster delivery times since it bypasses local postal facilities and heads straight to its postal destination.”
Trucks leave the facility every two hours, according to Dan Haddad, DST’s commingling manager. Hadded was one of several tour guides who explained DST’s operations to open house guests. “Any piece of mail that comes in goes out in 24 hours or less,” he said.
“Our presort operation is one of the largest in existence and serves some of the nation’s largest transaction mailers,” explained Salls. “We are pleased to offer this valuable service to local businesses of all sizes that can benefit from our state-of-the-art technology, industry knowledge, as well as our longstanding relationship with the U.S. Postal Service.”
That state-of-the-art technology includes “address quality tools that apply the updated address to the mail piece, if necessary, as well as”a proprietary bard code, according to the press release.
“We believe it’s the most sophisticated system in the world,” said Delfer, adding that the minds behind the system are always working on “plans to make it better.”
DST Mailing Services’ new offering added about 45 jobs in El Dorado Hills, an accomplishment lauded by El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Debbie Manning, who always has local businesses in mind and said, “This could be really advantageous to the business community.”
