Lawrence Alvin Randall, 78, was driving his 1997 Toyota 4Runner westbound in the No. 2 lane of Highway 50 east of Carson Road at about 4:10 p.m., a CHP press release stated. He was traveling at approximately 55 mph when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle turned sharply to the right and left the highway. It traveled on to the shoulder, struck a raised curb and continued traveling north, immediately striking a tree and fatally injuring Randall. The vehicle came to a rest facing northwest in the No. 2 lane.
Randall was pronounced dead at the scene.
