A crash on Broadway in Placerville on March 18 left the sole occupant of the vehicle dead at the scene just east of the Waffle House.
The accident, which happened at about 1 a.m., happened with the vehicle, which had been traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and left the road on the northern edge, said Capt. Mike Scott of the Placerville Police Department. From there, the car “traveled quite some distance,” in the ditch, Scott said, before hitting the concrete culvert.
The victim was identified as Sonny James Caudill, Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Becker said.
Caudill was pronounced dead at the scene. Toxicology reports are still pending.
