John “Johnny” Gerald Poland, 44, was taken into custody Tuesday morning without incident after a three-year investigation, the FBI announced.
The charges against Poland include two counts “for corruptly persuading a person to alter, destroy or conceal an object’s integrity or availability for use in an official proceeding, and attempting to do so and three counts for corruptly persuading another person with the intent to influence the testimony of any person in an official proceeding, and attempting to do so.” He allegedly committed the acts both on and off duty.
It is alleged that Poland tried to “dissuade witnesses from providing information and material, impeding a criminal investigation.” Other allegations of misconduct include providing gang affiliates with law enforcement-sensitive information and sexual contact with minors. The charges cover a several year period, including time while he was a School Resource Officer at South Tahoe High School.
The arrest is the result of an extensive investigation by the FBI, SLTPD and the California Department of Justice Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement SLEDNET Task Force.
Poland is currently being held in the Sacramento County Jail with no bail.
