The Amador-El Dorado Unit of Cal Fire will be holding its 11th annual Fill the Boot for Burns fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Cameron Park. The fundraiser will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“There will be three locations where you can simply drive by and donate: the corner of Cameron Park Drive and Country Club Drive, Merrychase Drive and Cambridge Road and Green Valley Road and Cambridge Road,” Unit Chief Kelly Keenan said in a press release. “Money raised from this event goes towards sending young burn victims to burn camps and to research programs for the advancement of burn treatment and rehabilitation practices.”
The event raised $20,000 last year. This year the goal is to raise $25,000 for the Firefighters Burn Institute, Keenan said.
“I am in awe of how generous this community is and it is an honor to live and work here,” he said. “Our neighbors are the best there are and I believe they understand that not only are burns are a lifelong injury but that they are especially devastating to children.”
The Firefighters Burn Institute is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded by the Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 in 1973, for the purpose of establishing a local burn treatment facility; providing recovery programs for burn survivors; providing fire and burn prevention through public education; funding education for burn team professionals, firefighters, and burn survivors; and supporting burn treatment and rehabilitation research.
