Just before 1 p.m. on May 17, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call that a body had been discovered floating in Folsom Lake. The caller was on a boat and could see the body. Deputies responded to the location and recovered the body.
Meanwhile, California state personnel discovered and recovered a second body.
The Coroner’s Office, part of the Sheriff’s Office, responded to both locations to begin an investigation and identify the bodies.
The deceased were identified as Toby Strauch, 54, and Gerald Jacobs, 53. A body that had been recovered the previous morning was identified as James Andrew Strauch, 47.
On the afternoon of May 19, deputies discovered a fourth body floating in the lake. After an investigation, the body was identified as that of Kenneth Smith, 48.
The causes of death of the four men have yet to be determined. All four men had been missing since a boating accident on May 10.
