Rachel Anne Gray, the woman critically burned in an accident on the Rubicon Trail during the Jeepers Jamboree, was recovering Friday morning and doing well for her condition.
“I just got off the phone with her mom,” said Chris Patton, longtime friend of Gray, 21, and the liaison for Gray’s family. “She was going into surgery. She was smiling at her mom this morning,” he said happily.
Patton previously said that Gray was scheduled for surgeries each morning to deal with the third-degree burns covering about 75 percent of her body. She has already required skin grafts to her abdomen and the amputation of her left leg below the knee.
A UC Davis spokesperson said that, as of Friday morning, Gray was still in critical condition.
An account has been set up to accept donations for Gray at the El Dorado Savings Bank under the name of Rachel Anne Gray. The account number is 263017782. A Facebook page has been set up at facebook.com/RAGEFoundation, after Gray’s nickname.
