Julie Griffith-Flatter, a land use planner for Sierra County for 18 years and member of multiple planning boards, lost the election for California State Senate District 1 to incumbent Ted Gaines on Tuesday night.

Griffith-Flatter said, “I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to run for State Senate District 1 and to the people that supported me.”
She was pleased with how the campaign was run, she said. “I began the campaign with the hope that Senator Gaines and I would be able to run positive campaigns without creating vast expenditures. I think it is refreshing that we were able to do so. I congratulate Senator Gaines for his win.”
Gaines did not immediately return a call for comment on his victory.
