Heard over the back fence: Time to Zumba!

LOVE IS NO. 1:
Review the “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” calendar and you will discover the following recommendation: “Start the day with love, live the day with love, end the day with love. The wisdom of this strategy is quite simple. The idea is to remind yourself frequently, throughout the day, of the importance of living your life with love as your absolute top priority.”

FOREVER FIT CLASS:
Beginning Sept. 4, new fitness classes are being offered at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. A “Zumba Gold” class will be available on Thursdays, 8 to 8:50 a.m. This class takes the Zumba dance and modifies the moves. There will be music and dance moves from Salsa, Tango, Rumba and Cha-Cha. Bring a towel and water. The fee is $50 for a 10-class punch card or $80 for a 20-class punch card. Punch cards may be shared by husband and wife. To register for class, call 916-358-3575.

Registration time will be at 11 a.m. There will be a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The fee is $135 if paid by Sept. 3 ($155 after 9-3). The fee includes green fees, cart, range balls, closest to pin, longest drive, furthest from the pin, free give-aways, raffle prizes, free beverages on the course, a lunch and a great dinner. For more information or to register, call 530-621-5885. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Family Connections El Dorado.

ADVICE FOR MAGAZINE ADDICTS:
The “Who Knew” calendar offers the following household hint: “Are piles of magazines piling up around your home? Make some colorful and functional magazine holders by cutting cereal boxes at angles and covering them with wrapping paper. Cover with some craft lacquer for a durable finish.”

STORYTIME AND CRAFTS:
The “Children’s Storytime” classes will be offered on Fridays at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 14 through June 28, 2013. Children, ages 3 to 5, and their adults are welcome to enjoy the stories and craft activities at the Placerville Main Library, 345 Fair Lane.

BE A STRONG SENIOR:
All new “Forever Fit” classes are starting on Sept. 4 at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. A class titled “Still Going Strong” will be offered on Tuesdays from 8 to 9 a.m. The class workout includes 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of strength, and 20 minutes of core/flexibility. Bring a mat, weights, and water. The class fee is $50 for a 10-class punch-card or $80 for a 20-class punch-card. Punch-cards may be shared by husband and wife teams. Call 916-358-3575 to reserve your spot.

COURT CONFUSION:
If you glance at Richard Lederer’s “Anguished English” calendar, you will see the following “Disorder in the Court” dialogue: “Q. Mr. Gonzales, where do you live? A. Mexia. Texas. Q. Have you lived in Mexia all your life? A. Not yet.”

MOTHER GOOSE IS COMING:
The award-winning program “Mother Goose on the Loose” will return on Thursdays at 10:15 and 11 a.m., Sept. 13 through June 27, 2013. This program is designed for children, ages 1 week to 2 years old. The classes combined music, movement, visual literacy and language development to help children get ready to read. The classes will be at the Placerville Main Library, 345 Fair Lane.

Drive into the parking lot in back of the library, 345 Fair Lane.

A DALAI DILLY:
My “Insight from the Dalai Lama” calendar notes the following admonition: “When you disregard the basic needs of the body, you harm the many sentient organisms that live within the body.”
