Looking to help out those still shivering in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Kelley Rogers, owner of the Hangtown Skate Shop, has been gathering coats and sweatshirts to send to New Jersey.
Rogers said he heard about the need for warm clothing through a message sent out by a skate shop in New Jersey. “Jersey was hit real hard and many are still without electricity,” Rogers said.
The skate shop owner said he used Instagram and Facebook to get the word out locally. “This is what I’m about,” he said. He said the response so far has been great with one donor coming all the way from Angels Camp to deliver a bag of clothing, some with the tags still on them.
He estimates he has between 30-40 coats and sweatshirts so far. He plans to ship this them week but is still accepting donations from anyone who wants to add another garment to the shipment. Those who want to donate can contact Rogers at 530-626-6998.
The Hangtown Skate Shop is located at 200 Armory Drive in Placerville.

FEMA Stops People From Sending Donated Supplies to Victims of Hurricane Sandy
Barbara RogersNovember 14, 2012 - 4:19 pm
Prime Time, the donated items that Kelley is collecting are to be shipped to The New Jersey Skate Shop in News Brunswick N.J. This is part of the "Skaters For Sandy" that has been going on all over the county. I don't like Prime Time's post, it is negative. All items collected have been shipped as of today.

Barbara, I’m less certain that Prime was commenting negatively on Kelley Rogers' generous donation. The article is more about FEMA's request for cash instead of goods. But since the Skate Shop apparently coordinated directly with a N.J. business, FEMA is out of the picture. Well done.

Hi Evelyn, first of all I always enjoy reading what you write on these blogs, job well done. Thanks so much, I probably took prime time's comment a bit personal as Kelley is my son. Just didn't think it was necessary for this person to chime in about FEMA. This was a good thing that not only Kelley did but our community as well. I can't say enough about the generosity that was displayed by people. paste this link; http://espn.go.com/action/skateboarding/blog/_/post/8601037/skaters-send-aid-nj-sandy-victims
