Wesley Rickard, 79, of Rancho Murieta, was driving his silver 2014 Honda Civic in the No. 3 lane westbound on Highway 50 east of El Dorado Hills Boulevard in El Dorado Hills at about 25 mph with his hazard lights on, a CHP press release states.
Britt Barber, 56, of Placerville, was driving his maroon 2000 Toyota Tacoma in the same lane at about 65 mph, approaching the Civic. He attempted to stop and locked the brakes of the truck. The front of the truck struck the rear of the Civic.
The Civic traveled, out of control, across all the lanes of traffic, striking the concrete k-rail divider. The Tacoma struck the concrete k-rail on the north shoulder of the highway.
Paulette Rickard, 76, of Rancho Murieta, passenger of the Civic, sustained fatal injuries. Wesley Rickard sustained critical injuries. He was flown to Sutter Roseville Hospital for treatment. Barber sustained minor injuries.
