An inmate at the El Dorado County Jail died suddenly Friday night while in the recreation yard.

James Thomas Clark, 53, of West Sacramento, collapsed while exercising in the recreation yard around 8 p.m., a press release stated.  Correctional officers immediately started CPR while Clark was transported by ambulance to Marshall Hospital.

Clark did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital. There were no obvious signs of foul play and an autopsy will be conducted. The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office.
