JENNIFER KENDALL appeared in court Friday. Her trial date was proposed for May 21. Democrat file photo
Jennifer Kendall appeared briefly in court Friday morning to push back a readiness and settlement conference and to assign a start date for a trial.
Michael Atwell, Kendall’s court-appointed attorney, proposed a May 21 trial date. He estimated the trial to take five days.
“We are still digesting a huge amount” of material from previous counsel Tom Johnson, Atwell said. He was still determining whether all the information was relevant to the case.
Kendall had reportedly fled from California to Spokane, Wash., with her then 18-month-old son, in violation of family court orders. The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office launched an investigation to find her in August 2011. On April 9, 2012, she was located and transported back to El Dorado County, where custody of the child was given to the father, Kevin Chase.
