Kiwanis to spruce up Schnell School

By March 21, 2014

The Kiwanis Club of Placerville is preparing for a Kiwanis One Day project at Schnell School to help spruce up the school grounds.

Kiwanis One Day is a global day of service that unites the entire Kiwanis family, including Kiwanis, Aktion Clubs, Key Clubs and Builder’s Clubs.

On April 5, more than 100 volunteers from Placerville Kiwanis and its service leadership groups are expected to join nearly 600,000 volunteers around the world in devoting a few hours of hands-on service. Kiwanis International expects that Kiwanis One Day will contribute nearly 1 million service hours around the world in just one day.

Maggie Bush, chair the local Kiwanis One Day project, said, “Finding a project big enough to accommodate lots of people for a few hours can be challenging. My girls have attended Schnell School and I know that there are always lots of smaller projects that need to get done, but are lower on the priority list. Painting the picnic benches, helping to weed, refreshing the paint of the large world map, as well as proving a shade tree for the kindergarten area are all great projects to help the school stay vibrant.”

The principal at Schnell School, Patrick Paturel, said, “We at Schnell School continue to be touched by the outpouring of community support shown towards our school. The Placerville community is one with strong roots. It is through community groups such as Placerville Kiwanis that these roots continue to grow and strengthen. Schnell School is very grateful for the outpouring of support shown to us by Kiwanis and its student groups. The upcoming work day on April 5 will be one in which all people are involved.”
