Lightning causes small forest fires

Lightning strikes caused two small fires in the Eldorado National Forest on June 13.

The fires were in the Georgetown Ranger District of the Eldorado National Forest, said Frank Mosbacher of the U.S. Forest Service. The Meadow Fire was located above Brushy Creek Reservoir, while the Joe Fire was south of Sugar Pine Mountain and west of Saddle Mountain near Butcher Knife Joe Road, Mosbacher said.

The Meadow Fire was about 2 acres in size, said Kristi Schroeder of the Forest Service. It was reported at 1:05 p.m. and contained at 5:27 p.m. The Meadow Fire was a quarter of an acre and was reported at 12:22 p.m. and contained at 4:01 p.m.

The fires were responded to by the Forest Service, Cal Fire and local agencies.
