At 45 years old Rotary Park in Placerville has gone through its fair share improvements in recent years. Most of the playground equipment for children has been replaced; new sidewalks have been installed; and the snack bar, bathrooms, railings and flag poles have been updated.

One more improvement is still needed according to Steve Stymeist, Placerville Rotary Club member.

“New lights around the park are desperately needed for the younger children who enjoy the playground close to sunset,” Stymeist said.

“We’re trying to make things safer for the children,” Stymeist said.

One of the major fundraisers for the improvements is Lobster on the River, a spectacular lobster dinner served at Coloma Resort, 6921 Mount Murphy Road in Coloma, on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Stymeist, owner of Stymeist Auto Body in Placerville, is in his second year as chairman of the sixth annual event.

Since the inaugural event in 2007, Stymeist said more than $200,000 has been raised toward buying new equipment for the playground, as well as giving money to help the Boys and Girls Club of El Dorado County.

“Our main focus is our kids growing up in the county,” Stymeist said.

Anyone wishing to attend can select lobster or filet mignon for the main course. The menu opens with appetizers and cocktails at 5:30 p.m. followed by Caesar salad, a bread bowl of claim chowder and baked potato with the entrée.

Water, sodas and a bar will be available.

The meal is being catered by Diane Wilkinson Catering in Placerville.

The Nobs Band is scheduled to play a mixture of rock ‘n’ roll dance music from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Stymeist said.

Tickets for the Lobster on the River can be purchased at California Overhead Door in Diamond Springs; and Thompson Toyota, Terrie Y. Prod’hon, CPA, The Paint Spot, Sierra Gold Graphics, Stymeist Auto Body and the Mountain Democrat in Placerville.
