South Lake Tahoe Police officers responded to a call on Bonanza Avenue of a male breaking into a residence, a press release stated. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee while carrying bags of stolen items.
He was chased through yards and over a fence to a meadow near D Street and Highway 50. There, the suspect attempted to pull a handgun from his waistband. The suspect lost control of the gun, a semiautomatic 9mm with a high capacity magazine. He was apprehended with no shots fired.
During the event, one police officer was injured and taken to the emergency room.
The suspect provided false information regarding his identity, and his true identity is currently under investigation.
He was charged with alleged illegal possession of a firearm, armed burglary and robbery.
The house the suspect was burglarizing was allegedly found to be an illegal marijuana grow house. The SLEDNET task force eradicated the grow.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Detective Nick Carlquist at 530-542-6133.
