El Dorado Superior Court has opened Department 8, its new dedicated Juvenile and Traffic Court, located at 295 Fair Lane, Placerville. All West Slope traffic matters and juvenile dependency and delinquency cases will be heard at this new facility.
This move centralizes all juvenile proceedings in one court department, eliminating the need to transport juvenile delinquents held in the juvenile hall to the Main Street Courthouse through public places, and provides one department for the juvenile court judge.
This long-awaited grand opening signifies the completion of a court, state, and El Dorado County multi-agency collaboration nearly six years in the making. In 2007, the El Dorado County Probation Department and county Board of Supervisors offered an equity exchange to provide the court with space below the juvenile hall in Placerville in exchange for court space at a satellite facility in South Lake Tahoe.
From 2008 through 2011 the Administrative Office of the Courts and county Board of Supervisors began the process of preparing an equity exchange agreement and in January 2011 the agreement was finalized. During this time the actual design of the space was completed and in October 2011 the remodel construction began.
