The governing board of the Gold Trail Union School District Sept. 6 appointed a trustee to fill an open position.
The position became vacant Aug. 9. The new appointee is Daryl Lander.
Along with the appointment was a statement notifying the voters that unless a petition calling for a special election pursuant to Education Code 5091 is filed in the office of the County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days of the provisional appointment, it shall become an effective appointment.
In addition, that evening, board supported the hiring of three additional teachers that will allow class sizes in second grade to be reduced to an average of 22 students per class, sixth grade classes to be reduced to an average of 24 students per class, and lower the core classes in English and mathematics in the eighth grade.
Also, PTO Co-President Debbi Matyac presented a plan to reopen the school libraries which was enthusiastically accepted.
