Prosecutors have declined to file charges against the former El Dorado Irrigation District board candidate who suspended his campaign following his November arrest.
Rob Carey, 36, was arrested Nov. 6 on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.
On the morning after his arrest, Carey told the Mountain Democrat that he had withdrawn from the race for EID board
That announcement came one day before the election, but Carey still mustered 370 votes —roughly 10 percent of the ballots.
At the time, Carey said the arrest stemmed from a verbal argument.
"It was boyfriend-girfriend (dispute)," he previously told the Democrat. "There was no domestic violence. She wanted to talk in the morning. I was insistent on talking it through before going to bed."
Last week, officials with the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office confirmed that Carey would not be facing charges in relation to the arrest.
Deputy district attorney Jodie Jensen, who reviewed the reports, said that the case was rejected by her office. She declined to comment further.
Carey, though, said he was pleased by the DA's decision to reject the case.
"I'm glad to put this behind me and move forward," the former candidate said.
But would Carey consider a return to politics?
"If the opportunity arises and I feel that my qualities suit the position that's open, I think I'd definitely run again," he said.

He's just like his uncle from that crappy eatery, The Forester, a womanizer and a drunk. What a joke, this guy running for EID is like letting a fox in the hen house! What qualifies him as a candidate?? Hammering nails into his unpermitted addition to his home???? Typical Carey gypsy! Too many of their kind around these parts. The only thing he should run for again, is the hills!

Mike Adams, is this you? Is putting down the man who's retirement money you stole making you feel better about yourself?!! The Forester is a thriving, successful restaurant that pays it's taxes and the Carey's are upstanding, honest, local citizens. Where does that leave you?

If this man was indeed guilty of domestic violence, he should have to take responsibility. Too often, these cases are simply dismissed and the victim is left with no home, no food, no support and no money. When is this terrible crime going to start being taken more seriously? It is a difficult decision to report the person you love to the authorities, and when you do, you regret it since nothing is done about it and you are left worse off. It is hard to imagine someone reporting a crime of this nature if it in fact did not occur.
