It was an impressive City Counsel meeting seeing nearly if not all officers, dispatch, and office staff in attendance for something they believe in. Those who spoke offer Chief Nielsen well deserved praise and a warm farewell as he transitions into retirement. Officer Cannon and Sgt Bialorucki dominated the public comment making a well thought out case for the Counsel to consider. Change is good in government agencies, with the Chiefs retirement, and a not to distant Captain retirement the Placerville Police Department can continue to evolve with an entirely new administration moving forward. The Counsel agreeing with these recommendations to hire a new Chief and leaving contract options open to for future discussion was a responsible move. All parties who spoke should be commended for their hard work and passion.
